She takes the blood pressure and the temperature and writes information on the patient chart. A nurse is vital to the operation of the doctor's office.

Nurses are also essential to all hospitals. They are there when babies are born, they assist with surgeries, and they help with anything and everything in the hospital. And, they usually work rather long and hard hours, too, again because of that nursing shortage. So, nurses have a lot of information they have to learn and remember, and they are often under pressure to do so.

There are many different types of nurses that you could choose to become. You could, for example, decide to study to become a pediatric nurse and work with children. Or, if you think you would like to help with pregnancies and baby deliveries, you could consider becoming a certified nurse midwife. Perhaps you would like to specialize in emergency nursing or cancer nursing or rehabilitation nursing. There are dozens of different specialties from which you can choose as well as several different degrees.

You can also choose from a wide variety of nursing schools. You may want to go to school on campus, or you might prefer to earn your nursing degree online.
